Map showing location of Drakelow ParkA resolution to grant planning was given in July 2010 and following the signing of the Section 106 agreement with South Derbyshire District Council formal outline planning permission was granted in March 2012.

This exciting regeneration scheme will ultimately deliver:

  • A new business park
  • Approximately 2,000 new homes over the next 15 years including affordable, first time buyer, family and retirement homes
  • Extensive new open and green space - 35% of the site will be new green space for use by existing and future residents
  • A new primary school
  • Neighbourhood centres providing retail, leisure, health and community uses
  • A multimillion pound transport improvement package
  • The refurbishment and new use of the listed buildings on site
  • A riverside and woodland park and nature trails

Drakelow Park is situated in South Derbyshire. Burton upon Trent lies to the north, Swadlincote to the east, Walton on Trent to the south and the A38 to the west.

Roger Bullivant Ltd (RBL) which is owned by Soletanche Bachy, part of the Vinci group, operates a manufacturing business on part of the site.

On the adjacent site, E.ON received government consent to build a highly efficient gas-fired power station at Drakelow in October 2007 and has applied for an extension to the project to increase the site's generating potential.

The 110 hectare Drakelow Park is bounded by the National Forest freight railway line, agricultural land, the River Trent and a nature reserve. It sits within an established mature woodland area, with the Darklands Brook flowing through the site.
